The History of 6th September 1965
The 1965 war was a defining moment in Pakistan's history. Under the cover of darkness, Indian forces crossed the international border without a formal declaration of war, aiming for the city of Lahore. Despite being outnumbered and outgunned, the Pakistani military, backed by the unwavering resolve of the entire nation, halted the enemy's advance.
The historic battle at the BRB (Bambawali-Ravi-Bedian) Canal became a symbol of resistance, where the Pakistani forces fiercely defended their motherland and prevented the capture of Lahore.
Our Heroes: The Nishan-e-Haider Recipients
The war produced extraordinary tales of valor. The highest military award, the Nishan-e-Haider, was awarded to those who demonstrated exceptional bravery.

How the Day is Officially Commemorated
Defence Day is marked by official ceremonies and public events across the country:
- Gun Salutes: The day begins with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salutes in provincial capitals.
- Wreath-Laying Ceremonies: Special ceremonies are held at the mausoleums of the Quaid-e-Azam, Allama Iqbal, and the graves of the Nishan-e-Haider recipients.
- Fatiha Khawani: Prayers are offered in mosques across the country for the martyrs and for the safety and prosperity of Pakistan.
- Military Exhibitions: The Armed Forces often display military hardware, aviation flypasts, and parades to showcase their readiness to defend the nation's borders.
